2016 Youth@Work/SYEP

Youth between the ages of 15 - 19 by July 1, 2016, interested in employment for the 2016 Youth@Work/Summer Youth Enrichment Program year, should register on-line at www.pgcc.edu/go.youthatwork for the Job Readiness Training Program.  The attached flyer provides the schedule options for the Job Readiness Training.  Youth that participates in and successfully completes the JRT Program will receive priority preference for job placement.   
 
If youth participated in the JRT Program last year, they are eligible for Career Pathways this year, if they have:
                1).  Successfully completed 75% of SYEP job training and earned a certificate, or
                2).  Verified successful completion of SYEP job placement, or
                3).  Verifiable employment of more than 200 hours between June 1, 2015 – August 31, 2015.
                4).  On-line Registration REQUIRED.
               
Participants in the JRT Program for the first time, will complete “Bring Your A Game” curriculum.  Registration is required. 
               
The Alternative Attendance Options is available for College Students,  up to age nineteen(19) by July 1, 2016and instructionsare on PGCC’s website.  
 
Youth will be able to APPLY for summer employment beginning February 22 – March 25, 2016

Muslim Senior Village Meeting by MCMF

The Montgomery County Muslim Foundation is pleased to invite you and members of your family to participate in a discussion on how to form the first Senior Village in our community. Pazit Aviv, the Village Coordinator with Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services Aging and Disability Services, will be presenting the concept and answering questions on how to start your own Village.

For those of you who are unfamiliar with the Senior Villages, They are volunteer based networks designed to improve the quality of life of their members by helping them get needed services, maintain their independence, and age in place. In Montgomery County there are already 17 senior villages. The village movement is gaining popularity and expanding rapidly.  Please look at forwarded MyMCMedia video for additional information .

Know Before You Owe

On Wednesday, March 2nd, the Howard County Office of Consumer Affairs and Consumer Advisory Board will host a Student Loan Forum and Resources Fair, “Know Before You Owe!”. The purpose is to help prospective students and families make informed decisions on how to: finance higher education, determine manageable debt loads, shop for student loans and avoid consumer scams surrounding higher education. Our speakers include representatives from Howard County Consumer Affairs, HCPSS, Howard Community College, US Department of Education, the MD Attorney General’s Office, and the Consumer Finance Protection Board.
