Congratulations on reaching this level of accomplishment in your high school career. You are in the final months of your senior year; you have prepared yourself well and are ready to take the next step. We applaud you for your interest in furthering your education by either attending a trade school, college, or university.
Here at Southern Maryland Electric Cooperative (SMECO) we understand that there are many opportunities available to you. Because of the financial challenges that continuing your education may pose for you and your family, SMECO is pleased to have available scholarships for our graduating high-school seniors.

Simply complete the application in this booklet, and return the booklet and required documentation and an essay on Why Is A College Education Important to Completing My Lifetime Goals? to SMECO by Friday, April 1, 2016. You may either mail the information to Bernadette Lewis at P. O. Box 1937, Hughesville, Maryland 20637 or drop it off at one of our offices located in Hughesville or Leonardtown.

The Scholarship Guidelines are also enclosed to assist you in completing the application, providing the required documentation, and preparing your essay. Before submitting your application packet, please take time to review the guidelines to ensure that all requirements have been satisfied. We strongly encourage that you seek assistance in reviewing the required essay. Please note that interviews for the top 7 candidates will be held on Saturday, April 16, 2016.

The 2016 Credit Union College Scholarship Program is now underway! College-bound members are eligible to apply for one of ten $1,000 essay-based scholarships - one $1,000 video-based scholarship;
and one $1,000 photo-based scholarship. And, yes, you may apply in all three categories!

The Ivy Foundation
The Ivy Foundation ("Foundation"), a 501(c)(3) organization, was established in 1986 by the members of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Xi Zeta Omega Chapter. The purpose of The Ivy Foundation is to provide opportunities for young people to achieve healthy and productive outcomes; support academic achievement and higher education; promote community economic development; and encourage volunteerism through community service. As such, the members of The Ivy Foundation are pleased to invite high school seniors matriculating in the District of Columbia public and charter school systems to apply for one or more of the Foundation's annual scholarships.
Each year, The Ivy Foundation provides thousands of dollars in scholarships to help make the academic dreams of students from the District of Columbia a reality. In the Spring of 2016, The Ivy Foundation seeks to award four scholarships (in the amount of at least $2,500.00 each) to four, deserving students. The scholarships will be awarded in the Fall of 2016 and must be used for academic expenses, including tuition, books, and course-related fees at an accredited, four-year college or university in the 2016-2017 academic year.

2016 Federal Communications Bar Association ScholarshipThis year the Foundation's goal is to award scholarships in amounts that typically range from $5,000 to $28,000, payable over four years. The scholarships will be awarded to graduating high school seniors who demonstrate their potential to succeed in college and make positive contributions to their communities. A preference will be given to students with experience or interest in pursuing studies or a career in the communications sector, such as engineering, computer science, information technology, journalism, media, telecommunications or law. Scholarships will be awarded based on this online application as well as a personal interview with members of the FCBA Foundation. All online applications and interviews will be evaluated using the following criteria: academic achievement and honors, communication and personal presentation skills, financial need, motivation, attendance record, service to school, service to community, interest in engineering, computer science, information technology, journalism, media, telecommunications or law. The Blades of Green Scholarship Fund

Blades of Green was founded in 1989 just outside of Annapolis, Maryland. They have always placed an emphasis on organic-based and bay-friendly lawn care techniques and products. As Maryland locals, the protection of the environment and our water sources is near and dear to Blades of Green. Advancements in environmental engineering, plant sciences, environmental sciences, green technology, and related fields starts with a focus on environmental education.
Blades of Green has created a merit-based scholarship fund for individuals seeking undergraduate or graduate level education in environmental studies or related fields. Mark and Brad Leahy have created a $1,000 scholarship for the 2016 academic year. The scholarship will be awarded based on academic excellence, pursuit of further study in environmental education at an accredited college or university, and passion for further study.

2016 Tom Joyner Foundation Full Ride Scholarship Now Accepting Applications
Students will receive full tuition and stipends for up to 10 semesters to cover on-campus room and board and books. Students must meet the required academic standards each semester to renew the funds each year. Graduating high school seniors can apply for the scholarship by going to the Tom Joyner Foundation website at http://www.tomjoynerfoundation.org to complete the application.

The Lamond-Riggs Citizens Association, Inc
The Lamond-Riggs Citizens Association, Inc. (LRCA) is pleased to announce that the scholarship application process is open for eligible graduating high school seniors who live in the Lamond-Riggs neighborhood. LRCA is requesting your assistance in informing all graduating seniors that this scholarship opportunity is available and that any student who is interested should go the Web site http://lrcadc.org/scholarships for instructions and the application package.
LRCA works to further the general welfare of residents who reside within its boundaries. The objective of these scholarships is to provide post-secondary support to graduating high school seniors who have excelled academically and have contributed their talents to the improvement of the community. The program recognizes the achievements of students living in the community and the impact that financial assistance can have on higher education study and completion. LRCA will award at least three (3) Academic Excellence Scholarships to eligible high school graduating seniors residing within the LRCA boundaries, who will attend an accredited college or university. Scholarship awards will range from $500 to $1000.

Scholarship Opportunity For Education Majors (High School Seniors and Collage Undergraduates)









The Dr. Nancy S. Grasmick/Johns Hopkins University PDK Chapter Endowed Scholarship is still available for the 2016-17 academic year. It is offered to high school seniors from the State of Maryland, who are interested in pursuing a career in education. Undergraduate education majors, who graduated from a high school in Maryland, are also eligible.

Greetings from HSF!
Are you a scholar or know someone pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree? Would a scholarship and support services that include career and mentorship interest you? If you plan to continue your education and haven’t already applied for a scholarship with the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF), I enthusiastically invite you to apply for the 2016-17 academic year. Our merit-based scholarship awards range from $500-$5,000, and are available for undergraduate and graduate students from all majors and fields of study. Please note that Business and STEM majors are highly encouraged to apply.
Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF): Application Deadline is March 30th
In the last scholarship cycle, HSF awarded more than 4,400 scholarships funded by 100 different companies and organizations. The HSF application allows students to apply for multiple scholarships with one application! Students have the potential to receive $500-$5,000 for the institution and major of their choice. Don’t leave money on the table, the deadline is March 30th!

Eligibility for the HSF Scholarship:
  • Must be of Hispanic heritage
  • U.S. citizen, permanent legal resident, DACA or eligible non-citizen (as defined by FAFSA)
  • Minimum of 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for high school students; minimum of 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale (or equivalent) for college and graduate students
  • Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited 4 year university in the fall of the desired scholarship year
  • Complete FAFSA or state based financial aid application (if applicable)

Islamic Medicine Lecture

 
Hakim M Salim Khanan international authority on Natural Medicine (Tibb), he has practiced Islamic Medicine since 1978 and is widely acknowledged as a medical practitioner who has mastered the science of Аавс╣мibb - medicine.  He is the Author of АавтТаТ╕An Introduction to Islamic Medicine.АавтТаТ╣  
He established Mohsin Clinic in Leicester, UK in 1978, he successfully treated many thousands of patients from different walks of life and communities. He also trains future practitioners in natural medicine through the College of Medicine and Healing Arts, training in Traditional (Tibb) Medicine.

Hakim SalimАавтТаТ╣s first teacher and inspiration to study natural medicine (Tibb), was Shabeer Hussain Saahib (ra). Having trained as a traditional Islamic Medical Practitioner and also having studied Iridology, Osteopathy, Western Phytotherapy and Homoeopathy, he lectures and teaches at least three of these other disciplines, bringing a unique perspective to Medical Practice. He was featured in a BBC documentary about traditional herbal medicine.

The Women’s Committee of Masjid As-Saffat (WCMAS) is a group of Muslim women from Masjid As-Saffat and other Muslim communities in the state of Maryland. Founded in 1974, our mission is to foster the growth of Islamic education for Muslim women and youth, and to propagate Islam as a way of life. We also endeavor to increase the public awareness and understanding of Islamic beliefs.

Alhamdulillah, WCMAS will be hosting our 33rd annual women's conference March 25-27, 2016 at the Hyatt Regency Baltimore Inner Harbor. The conference is for females ages 12 and up. I have attached a flyer with website and conference information. Please share with the women/young girls of your community.
