Intel Boot Camp and Smart Lighting Summer Camp

APPLICATION DEADLINE:  Friday, April 5, 2013 at 11:59 p.m.
Selection into the Intel Boot Camp and Smart Lighting Summer Camp is a competitive process and all applicants must submit the following documents in order to be considered. Please Note: Selected participants will receive lunch daily and all required supplies & materials. Students must attend all days and participate in all activities. A nominal stipend will be awarded to participants upon successful completion of the program.

REQUIRED DOCUMENTS
1. online application
2. essay (part of the online application)
3. two (2) letters of recommendation (at least one must be from a teacher)
4. copy of your most recent report card

* Submit letters of recommendation and the copy of your most recent report card via email to ICCAE@howard.edu.

* BE PREPARED TO COMPLETE THE ONLINE APPLICATION, INCLUDING THE ESSAY, WHEN YOU BEGIN YOUR APPLICATION. APPLICATIONS CANNOT BE SAVED AND RESUMED LATER. It is recommended that you first compose your essay in a word processing software like Microsoft Word and then cut and paste the essay into the appropriate section of the application.

ESSAY
A 250 to 500 word essay response to the following question must be submitted as part of this online application.

What are your specific science, technology, engineering and/or mathematics interests and career goals and how do you expect participation in this summer camp to help you pursue your goals?

Note: Do not include special formatting, like bold text, underlining, italics, and bullets. Special formatting will not copy from your word processing software into the online application.

LETTERS OF RECOMMENDATION
Each applicant must submit two (2) letters of recommendation. One letter must be from a teacher (preferably a science or math teacher). The other letter can be from a guidance counselor, supervisor, mentor, etc. Individuals related to you CANNOT write your recommendation letters.

Be sure to talk to the persons from whom you are requesting a letter to confirm that they will be willing to
provide a recommendation for you.

The recommenders should speak to your school performance, interests or extracurricular activities, leadership qualities, and why you should be selected for program.

Recommendation letters should be submitted via email to ICCAE@howard.edu.

NOTIFICATION
Applicants will be notified as to whether their application has been selected for participation by Monday, May 20, 2013

Open Senior Application Support Analyst-UNIX

PRIMARY PURPOSE OF THE POSITION 
The Senior Application Support Analyst develops moderately to highly complex code or programs within business applications and supports existing business applications to ensure system availability requirements and business needs are met. The position provides direction and assistance to other Support Analysts regarding complex technical issues. 

Required 
College degree and 2 years of related work experience, or 
Associate degree and 4 years related work experience, or 
Demonstrated ability to apply technical knowledge to multiple systems and support multiple business groups 
Demonstrated advanced ability to translate functional business requirements into complex technical solutions 
Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem solving skills 
Ability to work independently, as well as in a team environment 
Strong verbal and written communication skills 
Strong interpersonal skills. Must be able to effectively work with people in the team, other IT departments and/or outside of the enterprise 
Ability to design moderate to highly complex technical solutions 
Demonstrated extensive experience applying technical standards and change control policies and procedures 
Proficient in SQL and Relational Database Concepts and Design 
Expert knowledge of a particular technology/language or unit-specific application 
Advanced Unix System operation skills 
Strong scripting and system administration skills 
Demonstrated experience in a 24x7 Production Support Position

Middle and High School Students in United States and Canada Invited to Apply for Young Naturalists Awards


The American Museum of Natural History and the ALCOA Foundation are accepting applications for the Young Naturalist Awards from middle and high school students (grades 7 to 12) across the United States and Canada.

The inquiry-based research competition was created to promote active participation in the sciences and stimulate youth to explore science careers. The program encourages students to independently explore the natural world and pursue in-depth scientific research in the areas of biology, Earth science, ecology, and astronomy. Contestants form hypotheses, conduct research, plan experiments, gather data, and report their findings in an essay.

Twelve winning students will be honored at a ceremony at the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. Winners will receive a scholarship as well as paid trip to the awards ceremony, where they will meet with scientists and take a behind-the-scenes tour of the museum. In addition, winning contestants will have their essays featured on the AMNH Web site.
