Abstract:
In this discussion the speaker will share the value that systems engineering brings to a project, and how it could eliminate rework, improve quality and achieve sustainable products with large residual value. The seminar will allow for a mock hands on product development effort where the participants will break down into a number of development teams working on the delivery of a new product.

Speaker:
Ayman Nassar has been an IEEE member since 1989 as a student. He holds a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from Cairo University and a Masters degree in Systems Engineering and Engineering Management from University of Maryland, Baltimore County. He has held several technical and managerial new product design roles at Acer, Fujitsu, Northrop Grumman, RPM Consulting, Ericsson and IBM. He offers independent technology management consulting in areas of systems engineering, project management and business planning, and works for Enterprise Community Partners. First Islamic Heritage Museum Opens in the Nations Capital

With the grace of Allah (SWT) for the first time ever an Islamic Heritage Museum opens its doors in Washington DC. After nearly a decade of having a mobile Islamic Heritage Museum, Amir Muhammad, the founder of America's first Islamic History Museum has found a home for his unique collections of historical artifacts.

Br. Amid Nashid Muhammad ibn West, is a well-known businessman and published poet. He converted to Islam in 1974, and he is the author of the well-known book "Muslims in America: Seven Centuries of History, Collections and Stories of American Muslims". The book was first published in 1998, and written so he can leave his children, grandchildren and the general public a clearer picture of America's rich Islamic heritage.

Br. Muhammad is currently the president of Collections and Stories of American Muslims, a non-profit organization which provided the traveling exhibit and museum. When asked about the new museum, Br. Ayman Nassar, president of ILIA mentioned "It is a first step that needed to be taken a long time ago by the Muslim ummah in America to understand their past and have a vision for the future". Br. Ayman mentions "I have read brother Muhammad's book back in 2001, and have found it not only intriguing and educational but fascinating, I think the book is a must read for every Muslim living in America, it is simple, to the point and I recommend it to youth that I teach and coach on weekends, as part of their Islamic studies curriculum".

Free 4-Hr Java Training, April 9, 2011

Join IEEE Baltimore on Saturday April 9, 2011, 10 am-2 pm at the National Electronics Museum, as internationally known Java expert Marty Hall gives a super-compressed crash course on Java programming.

Title:
  Java Programming: A Crash Course in the Basics


Course Description:

Java is the world's most popular and widely-applied programming language, but it is large, complex, and sometimes difficult to get started with. This FREE, four-hour, fast-moving mini-course first gives an overview of Java and its application areas, then covers specific details of the most basic syntax and most important programming strategy: object-oriented programming.

BONUS: if you have a Windows laptop with a USB port, come 45 minutes early or stay late, and Marty will walk you through installing Java 6, Eclipse (a Java editor and development environment), sample code, Java programming exercises, and exercise solutions.


Prerequisites

The course is aimed at engineers, scientists, and others that have experience in *some* high-level programming language; it will move too quickly for first-time programmers. No previous Java experience is expected.


About the Instructor

Marty Hall is the president of coreservlets.com, a training and consulting company focused on Java EE, Ajax, JSP/servlets, JSF 2.0, and similar technologies. He is the author of 6 popular books on Java Enterprise technology that are published in English and 12 foreign languages.
