Free Computer Youth Technology Training Program Next Week

Byte Back, a DC-based non-profit computer training organization, is offering a FREE, four-day Summer Youth Technology Sampler next week for young DC adults ages 17-21. The deadline to register is Friday July 20, 2012. This program gives young adults a taste of careers in the IT field, and professions that make extensive use of technology: Web Design, Graphic Design, Computer Repair and Database Administration. They will also learn intermediate skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Those who complete the four-day program will receive a free computer, an internet modem, and one year of free internet service.

Training will take place Monday July 23 to Thursday July 26 between 12:30 and 6:00 PM at four DC public libraries:
Bellevue (115 Atlantic St SW)
Capitol View (5001 Central Av SE)
Francis Gregory (3660 Alabama Av SE)
Woodridge (1801 Hamlin St NE)

The "From Failure to Promise" Essay Contest is open to high school seniors, undergraduate, and graduate students. To be considered, you must submit a 1000 - word essay that addresses the following questions: "How has the book, From Failure to Promise: An Uncommon Path to Professoriate positively impacted your pursuit of success and promise? What is your commitment to improving the lives of global citizens once you’ve reached your destined promise?" Selection will be based on originality, quality of research, and effectiveness of presentation.

CKSF Scholarship Competition
Award: $200 to $2500
Deadline: Varies
The CKSF Scholarships are available to high school, undergraduate, and graduate students in the U.S. You must register to participate in scholarship quizzes that test your knowledge of topics ranging from general "common knowledge" to specific academic subjects, books, websites, and even movies. You will be scored based on a combination of time and accuracy. Students with the highest scores at the end of each competition win.
